Privacy Notice
Last updated: 15 October 2026
This notice explains what personal data the Fun or Freedom® app (the App) uses and why, as UK data protection law (UK GDPR) requires. The App is built to collect as little as possible.
Who we are
Christopher Wright, a sole trader of 28 The Horseshoe, Godalming, Surrey GU7 2LW (we), is responsible for (the "controller" of) the data described here. You can contact us at funorfreedom@gmail.com.
What stays on your phone
Everything you enter in the App, such as the names and figures for your debts and pots, is saved on your phone so the App works. We can't see it there. Deleting the App, or using Settings → Master Reset, removes it. Some activity is also sent to our server, as described below.
What we collect
Your install ID and app activity
When you first open the App it creates a random install ID. The App sends this ID to our server, together with a record of what you do in the App: amounts you skip, save or overpay, debt balances and the dates they apply from, any note you add when you update a debt balance, interest calculations, your currency, and which features you use. It does not include the names you give your debts or pots.
We use this to run the App (your history and charts are built from it) and, looking across all users, to understand how the App is used so we can improve it.
Lawful basis: our contract with you, to run the App; and our legitimate interests, to improve it.
When the App connects to our server, our hosting provider also sees your IP address, as with any internet connection.
Head Start (child savings)
The App is for adults aged 18 or over, and Head Start pots are run by an adult. We don't collect data from children. We never send the name you give a Head Start pot, or anything else you type into it, to our server, only amounts and percentages.
Who handles your data for us
- Railway hosts our server and database, in its EU West region (Amsterdam).
We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- On your phone: until you delete the App or use Master Reset.
- On our server: while you use the App. If the App hasn't contacted our server for two years, we delete the data held under its install ID. Master Reset also asks our server to delete everything sent under your old install ID straight away, and gives you a new one. If you're offline at the time, the two-year rule still applies.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to move it to another service.
To make a request, email funorfreedom@gmail.com. As we don't know who you are, we'll need your install ID to find your data. You'll find it in the App under Settings → Legal; press and hold it to copy.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
